Tempests are supposed to hit a few pieces of the country tonight, joined by downpour. MetService said there is a moderate gamble of the tempests ignoring the Canterbury Fields into the night.
There had previously been various lightning strikes north of Ōamaru this evening - "not the keep going for now", it said. There is a comparative gamble of tempests in Northland, the west of the North Island, Hawke's Straight, Tairāwhiti, the Coromandel and Sound of Bounty.
Into the night, "truly shaky" conditions are probably going to create showers over a large part of the North Island. MetService forecaster Gerard Bellam said the turbulent weather conditions was being driven by a virus front climbing the country. "We can anticipate some weighty downpour with falls of 10-20mm 60 minutes, and some hail also, with 5-15mm in measurement. That will go through by dusk."
